Western Canada Tire Dealers was formed in December 1962 in Banff, Alberta. 60 years later, there is an active membership of some 800 companies. The membership is comprised of independent tire dealers who specialize in tires and related services, throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Western Ontario, the Yukon and Northwest Territories. WCTD unites members on myriad common issues, from government legislation, labour standards, and health and safety to manufacturing requirements, tire recycling, and the environment.

WCTD members enjoy access to the most complete employee Technician Training and Certification program in the industry, ensuring the best trained and most knowledgeable staff to serve their customers.

WCTD was the catalyst behind the elimination of tipping fees on used tires destined for recycling—saving millions of dollars per year in disposal costs for all tire dealers.

The association was also instrumental in the development of Tire Stewardship Programs (recycling) in western Canada and is represented on each board of Provincial Stewardship.

The WCTD Safety Committee exchanges valuable information on workplace safety, helping to provide the tools to run the safest business possible.

The association is a proud member of AIA Canada, responsible for the Right to Repair Act legislated by the Federal Government. This has paved the way for independent tire and automotive dealers to have access to vital vehicle manufacture information; and allowed the aftermarket the necessary information to service new vehicles, such as the maintenance of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.

Belonging to WCTD also nets members access to excellent insurance and employee benefit programs through Federated Insurance, as well numerous other benefits such as preferred credit card rates, fuel discounts, stationery, business forms, preferred pricing on a wide range of products and services, and more.

The families of members and their staff are annually eligible to apply for one of five $2000 educational scholarships.
